The SONY is famous for its very good build quality on all its models reputation confirmed each time that we open for cleaning a SXRD model.
Recently, I fell into our hands a “small” VPL-AW15 with approximately 900 hours and walked straight into our laboratory course for removing and cleaning. The is the last AW15 LCD projector that built the SONY, since then dealt exclusively with the development and production of projectors with reflective SXRD panel.
As you understand it was a great opportunity for us to see from within, in what situation can be an LCD projector that carries several hours on his back. The projector so stroggylokathise on the bench of our laboratory and the surgery started..
Busting the CAP the first impression is that we are dealing with a Sony projector. Everything neatly, ground wires in cables, metal fences in plaques, designed cooling system.
Then we proceeded slowly in dismantling the projector up to gain access to the optical engine.
Special attention needed by kalwdiotainies the panel because they can easily injure themselves ….
Freeing the optical machine we can work comfortably on the cleaning of
The track light-panel-flashlight detaches easily with 4 screws …
Here the space that adapts the light with the panel …
On the side of the Prism meets the lens dust and spots made real partying ….
Unfortunately the panels and the light is non detachable, so how to clean the Interior No. Here be pointed out that every effort of cleaning with compressed air can produce the opposite effect (more granular dust ingress). Also it is very difficult the convergence correction if needed. This projector however was excellent convergence, within which we have grown accustomed to the SONY …
The lens, while the first two crystals were really sucks, had no particular dust ingress through the rest and it appears as kalokataskeyi with very good fitting …
Here inside of the Visual. Any ingress of dust here, has implications for the dimming of headlight and naughty light distribution in the panels. O sony at this point passed with honors …. minimal dust within the boundaries of the permissible..
After we finished cleaning the optical engine needs to xanakathisei in place of …
Some samples of what existed from dust inside the projector.
After pieced together again … needed the test to see what we did …
Unfortunately we were not photographs, nor measurements before cleaning so will settle on viewing impressions. The huge difference from before, in after cleaning, seemed in the acidity of the image and the great rise of the ansi contrast. The projector after cleaning it gave enough sharpness in the picture and a very clean black for the data category.
The difference in performance was obvious even to less experienced eyes.
The SONY reputation for excellent workmanship in all of its models is confirmed every time we open for cleaning a SXRD model.
Recently it came across in our hands the “small” VPL-AW15 with about 900 hours of use and of cource went straight to our laboratory for teardown and cleaning. The AW15 is the latest LCD projector built by SONY, since then focused exclusively on the development and production of headlight reflector panels SXRD.
It was a great opportunity for us to explore the inside of the projector and discovered in what condition can be a LCD projector that carries quite a few hours on his back. We put the projector in our bench and we started the surgery ..
Removing the cap, the first impression is that we are dealing with a Sony projector. Everything neatly, grounding wires, metal cover on boards, designed cooling system.
Then we slowly proceeded in the dismantling of the projector up to gain access to the optical engine.
Particular attention need it at the panels flat cables because they can very easily injured ..
Releasing the Optical Engine we can now comfortably proceed with the cleaning..
The piece prism-panels-lens detaches easily with 4 screws ..
Here the space adapted to the prism and panels ..
On the side where the prism meets the lens dust and spots made real party ..
Unfortunately the panels and the prism is not removable, so inside cleaning is impossible. Here we note that every effort cleaning with compressed air it can have the opposite effect (more settling dust grains). Also it is very difficult to correct the convergence if it is necessary. The particular projector however had excellent convergence, in which we have used by SONY ..
The lens, while the first two crystals were really crap, the rest of it was in great condition..
Here the inside of the optical. Any ingress of dust here, affects the reduction of brightness of the projector and the disorderly distribution of light in the panels. Sony on this one passed with flying colors …. little dust on the permissible limits ..
After we finished cleaning the optical engine must reseat in his place ..
Some samples of the projector inside contition..
After being put together again … need to test to see what we did …
Unfortunately we did not keep photographs or measurements before cleaning so we settle on viewing impressions only. The huge difference it seemed to be the sharpness of the image and the ansi contrast improvement. The projector after the cleaning has put more acidity to the image and very darker blacks..
The difference in performance was evident even in less experienced eye.
